Short answer

Egypt's commercial register rests on Law No. 34 of 1976, which WIPO Lex holds as amended up to Law No. 98 of 1996 1. The General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) forms companies, and since September 2023 some company types are formed only online 2. A March 2026 protocol provides for register extracts to be made available at post offices, as reported by Al-Ahram 4. Laws appear in al-Jarida al-Rasmiya and al-Waqa'i al-Misriyya, both published by the General Authority for Government Printing Offices 6. The Court of Cassation runs a site at cc.gov.eg 5.

The commercial register and its law

WIPO Lex, the legal database of the World Intellectual Property Organization, holds the Arabic text of Law No. 34 of 1976 on the commercial register 1. It lists the law as issued on 1 May 1976, published on 6 May 1976 and in force from 1 August 1976, in a version amended up to Law No. 98 of 1996 1. Later amendments could not be confirmed from an official Egyptian source, so this text may be out of date.

As reported by Fatima Suwairi of Al-Ahram on 10 March 2026, the National Postal Authority and the Internal Trade Development Authority signed a protocol 4. Under it, a mustakhraj al-sijill al-tijari (commercial register extract) is to be made available at post offices across the country. The services to be offered at post offices include inquiries into an establishment's data, lookups of the unified commercial register number (UCR) and payment of registration renewal fees 4.

Forming a company through GAFI

GAFI says it launched its Company e-Incorporation Service in September 2023 2. In the first phase, incorporation of sole proprietorships, limited and general partnerships and limited liability companies under Investment Law No. 72 of 2017 is done only online 2.

GAFI's investor service centre guide lists commercial register entry fees of EGP 56 for a company, EGP 64 for a partnership and EGP 9.5 for a sole proprietorship 3. The guide carries no date, so these amounts may have changed. Many later procedures need an official copy of the commercial register no more than three months old 3. The guide gives the help line as 16035 3.

Official Gazette and courts

The General Authority for Government Printing Offices (al-Hay'a al-'Amma li-Shu'un al-Matabi' al-Amiriya) publishes al-Jarida al-Rasmiya (the Official Gazette) and al-Waqa'i al-Misriyya (The Egyptian Events). Its site offers a search of both gazettes, annual paper subscriptions, requests to publish laws and decrees, and certified copies of texts from its archive 6. When opened on 7 November 2026, it listed al-Jarida al-Rasmiya n° 45 and al-Waqa'i al-Misriyya n° 246, both dated 5 November 2026, as the latest issues 6.

The Egyptian Court of Cassation, Mahkamat al-Naqd al-Misriya, has its site at cc.gov.eg 5. When tried on 7 November 2026, the page text gave only the court's name, so its search tools are not described.

What could not be confirmed

No official Egyptian text was opened for a personal data protection law, an access to information law or the land registry. The register operator's fee schedule and office list were not opened. These are left out of this page.
